Still here...

The fishing party was on Saturday, and it was great! I have to go back to work tomorrow so I want to spend some time with my family today, but I'll leave you with a few pictures from the party just so you know I'm still here. More details to follow sometime this week, hopefully. I have to pack up all the baby stuff we no longer need until Friday since I'm selling it (finally!!!!), so blogging time might be limited.

So this is how the cake turned out - my favorite chocolate cake recipe (I'll tell you more about that in another post), complete with cake crumbles as dirt and blue whipped cream for a lake. Since this is just something I dreamed up one night while waiting for the little one to fall asleep, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

I didn't set up any fancy dessert tables or anything, this being Germany I think I can get away without that. The kids were just running around having fun anyway and they got plenty of candy later when fishing for it. So this is just all the stuff waiting for the guests on the dining room table. The water bottles got pretty good use since it was a very warm day.

Some balloons and garlands for decoration.

And some kid-size mini muffins. No fancy cupcakes, just simple buttermilk muffins with a lemon glaze and sprinkles, not even a fish themed wrapper here. I know, so disappointing... But, while I like looking at fancy dessert tables and cute cupcakes, I had way too many toddler guests for that to be practical. These guys here can just be grabbed and eaten on the go. With the crumbs ending up everywhere, of course. But they'd end up everywhere anyway. At least with my kids.

This was the best part of the party: the fishing exam! I made a couple slides using Power Point with very basic questions about fish, this one being my favorite: what do fish like to eat? Smaller fish or ice cream? If I were a fish I know what I'd choose... I illustrated the slides with some simple clipart found around the Internet. Once they answered all the questions, they got their (homemade and personalized, of course) fishing licences and were ready to go fishing...

... in the pop-up pool. No water here, just gummybears and chocolate candy attached to fish stamped cards. More on that here

After everyone had filled their little buckets (made from blue paper cups and some wire), it was back to running around playing, trying out the gifts (a Playmobil fishing boat! A motorcycle with a blue flashing light!) and just having some plain old fun.

So that's it for today, details some other time. Just one more post on the fish party. Then I'll find something else to talk about. Really. I promise!

So what have you been up to?

Wir haben Anfang November auch wieder Kindergeburtstag, aber wir können da leider nicht mehr in den Garten gehen!

I don't know about you, but I love reading comments. That's a hint for you to leave one, btw. Not that I'm begging here. But I do love hearing from you...
